Chords : Kabhi Kabhi Aditi ...... JTYJN

A R Rahman has rolled out another romantic song straight from the hearts of those million people who share it with him when surrounded by his music. It is a beautiful song with music complementing the vocals wonderfully. The strumming pattern is a bit unorthodox which involves muting with the left hand but it is very easy. So here it goes..

This song involves 3 major chords…
Gm – 333553
Cm – 34553X
F – 112331
The starting interlude has to be strummed as well as muted. Considering it to be a 3-beat sequence, hit the chord DOWN twice and then instead of striking on the 3rd beat, just mute the chord. That should produce the desired effect. If you find a better way, do tell me. The interlude chords are as below:
Interlude
Gm — Gm — Cm
Gm — Gm — Cm
The above steps has to be done for each instance of the chord in the interlude. Now the song starts…
MUKHDA
Kabhi ka(Gm)bhi Aditi zinda(Gm)gi mein yuhi koi (Cm)apna lagta hai.
Kabhi ka(Gm)bhi Aditi wo bich(Gm)har jaaye to ek (Cm)sapna lagta hai.
Aise mei koi (Gm)kaise apne (Gm)aansu o ko (Cm)behne se roke?
Aur (F)kaise koi sochle every(Gm)thing’s gonna be ok?
The first two lines of the above stanza can be played without continuous strumming i.e. by just playing the interlude.
Kabhi ka(Gm)bhi to lage zinda(Gm)gi mein rahi naa khu(Cm)shi aur naa mazaa.
Kabhi ka(Gm)bhi to lage har (Gm)din mushkil aur (Cm)har pal ek sazaa.
Aise mein koi (Gm)kaise musku(Gm)raye, kaise (Cm)hasde khush hoke?
Aur (F)kaise koi soch de every(Gm)thing gonna be ok?
The INTERLUDE is played again once but it is delayed by half a bar.
Gm – Cm – G
ANTRA 1
(A#)Soch jara jaane(Cm)ja tujhko hum (A#)kitna chahte hai.
(Gm)Rotein hai hum bhi a(F)gar teri ankhon mein (A#)aansu aate hai.
(Gm)Gaane to aata na(Cm)hi hai magar phir (Cm)bhi hum gaate hai(Gm).
Ke Aditi (Cm)maan kabhi, kabhi (Cm)saare jahan mein an(F)dhera hota hai;
Lekin (Cm)raat ke (Gm)baad hi to sa(F)vera hota hai(F).
MUKHDA Again
More repeat of INTERLUDE and chord progressions…
ANTRA 2
(A#)Tu khush hai to la(Cm)ge ke jahan mein (A#)chhaayi hai khushi.
(Gm)Suraj nikle (F)baadlon se aur (Gm)baatein zindagi.
(Gm)Suun to jara mad(Cm)hosh hawa tujh(Cm)se kehne la(Gm)gi.
Ke Aditi (Cm)wo jo bichhad-te hai (Cm)ek na ek din (F)phir mil jaate hai;
Aditi (Cm)jaane tu ya (Gm)jaane na phool (F)phir khil jaate hai(F).
MUKHDA Again…

Singing While playing ??

Singing along playing guitar is very hard task for beginners.. but if u know better way to do it .. then you don't need to worry about it .

Singing along while you are playing guitar can be a very pleasant experience. Imagine yourself hanging out with your friends, you take out your guitar and start playing and singing with everyone. Or, maybe you’re at home, feeling dull, singing and playing guitar can bring out the energy within you. Now, you may already know this or would have even tried to sing and play at the same time, but with no real results. This may seem to be intimidating for the beginners but you can learn it and have a wonderful time alone or with friends.
It takes real practice to sing along while playing guitar as both hands are in use. There are a lot of things going on when someone sings and play guitar together which you’ll also need to do –
  1. Play the rhythm with one hand.
  2. Hold and change chords with the other hand.
  3. Singing in pitch.
  4. Staying coordinated.
  5. Synchronizing with the rhythm.
  6. Maintaining a constant rhythm according to beat.
Don’t be scared of the list of things given above as with regular practice these things are achieved naturally. You are not required to focus on the above things individually as everything sets in its proper place with proper practice.
Thousands of people have learnt this already and today it’s your turn. So, are you ready to learn how to sing along while playing guitar? Lay back and read on…

Keep It Simple Silly (KISS)

We as a human being have a tendency to make things complex. I would say just follow the principle of KISS – Keep It Simple Silly. Start with songs that are easy to sing and play at the same time. People generally (or may be unknowingly) choose songs that are either difficult to sing or difficult to play or even both. Due to this they either end up singing well and ruining the strumming or vice versa.

How To Choose An Easy Song

Choose a song that is :
  1. Easy to sing.
  2. Easy to play.
  3. Having a simple beat.
  4. Having easy lyrics.
  5. In your voice range.
There are millions of songs ever written and sung of every type possible. So, you’ll have a pool of songs to choose from. You may consider looking at the following links for selecting an easy song for you :
Done choosing a song? Let’s move on….

How To Sing And Play Guitar Together

Given below is a simple guide on how to do this. Note that every step given below is important so make sure you follow and understand them all completely.
  1. Practice chords of the song well, before starting to sing along. This is important so that when you start singing along you won’t think about the moment of your hands and your main focus would be on singing well.
  2. Start with humming the song along while playing guitar so that you become synchronized with rhythm. Once you are synchronized start singing along.
  3. You may have problem with your timing. If you don’t sing the words at just the right moment, the notes will get ahead of the song. This means there are specific musical notes and specific words that must happen in the performance.
  4. Don’t rush into playing the complete song all at once. Practice verse-by-verse. When you master the first verse then only jump to the second and so on.
  5. Play the song audio in the background in slow volume and practice along with it. This will help you in synchronizing with the rhythm and tempo of the song.
  6. When you have done enough practice and are now confident that you can play guitar and sing together consider recording your voice. This will help you identify the mistakes that you might be make and then rectify them later.
Learning the guitar is more ‘kinetic’ memory, so you have to actually do it to get used to it, and once you get used to it, you’ll be able to do it without thinking. The more kinetic memory you build up for playing the guitar, the less of your ‘conscious’ mind will be used up trying to do the chords. I always say practice is the key, the more you practice the better you get. Have fun with your guitar. :-)

Reading Guitar Tabs

For a guitarist it is very important to know how to read tabs .. Notes on many guitar sites is published in tabular form only .. so u need to learn how to read it .. so you can enjoy playing your favorite songs
Firstly.. What is Guitar Tabulature (or Tabs)?
Guitar tabulature (or tabs) is the graphical representation of a guitar fretboard which represents the six strings and the frets of the guitar. The notes which we have to play are given by the fret numbers on the respective string. The basic diagram of a Guitar tab is show below :
Here the dotted lines represent the strings of the guitar. The topmost string is thinnest and the bottommost is the thickest string (the thickness of strings increases from top to bottom). The number written on the tabulature represents the fret number and the string which we have to play. Suppose we have to play 5 fret of the D string, then the tab will look like this :
e———————————————————-|
B———————————————————-|
G———————————————————-|
D—5——————————————————|
A———————————————————-|
E———————————————————-|
How To Read The Tabs?
Let us look at an example so that it will become easy for you to understand. I’ve given below the tabs of song “Happy Birthday To You” which goes like this :
Part I
e——————-|————————-|
B——————-|————-3———–|
G–0-0-2-0-5-4—-|-0-0-2-0—-5———|
D——————-|————————-|
A——————-|————————-|
E——————-|————————-|
Part II
e——–3————–|———————————|
B———–5———–|–6-6-5—-3——————-|
G–0-0——–5-4-2—|———5—–5—————|
D———————–|——————————–|
A———————–|——————————–|
E———————–|——————————–|
The above tabs may scare some of you but fear not as they are very easy to read and understand.  In the first part the numbers 0-0-2-0-5-4… and so on represents the frets of the G string (4th string of your guitar from top) which we have to play. Zer0 (0) represents that we have to play open string. So the sequence of playing the part I will be like this :
1. First play the open G string.
2. Then again play the open G string.
3. Then 2nd fret of G string.
4. Then open G string.
5. Then 5th fret of G string.
6. Then 6th fret of G string and so on….
The string changes from G to B in part I. So the 3rd fret is played on the B string. The rest notes are to be played like this in the 2nd part also. One disadvantage of guitar tabs is that it does not specify how long should you hold a note so it is better if you listen to the song so that you can figure out how long you have to hold a particular note.
Different Symbols Used in Tabulature
  • h = hammer on
  • p = pull off
  • b = bend string up
  • s = slide
  • v = vibrato (as written as ~~)
There are many more symbols used but the above given symbols are mostly used so you can skip the others.
Hammer On
A hammer on is performed by picking the first note mentioned and then second note is hammered. The second note is not picked but just hammered using another finger. For example if it is written 5h7 it means that you pick 5th note(or fret) using one finger and then hammer on the 7th note using another finger.
e———————————————————-|
B———————————————————-|
G———————————————————-|
D———-5h7——————————————-|
A———————————————————-|
E———————————————————-|
Pull Off
A pull off is the opposite of a hammer on. The first note is played then the fretting hand pulls the finger off and lets the second note to play. The second note is not actually picked but just echoed. For example in below example 6p5, 6th note is played and the finger is pulled off to echo 5th note.
e———————————————————-|
B———————————————————-|
G———————————————————-|
D———-6p5——————————————-|
A———————————————————-|
E———————————————————-|
Bend
In bend the fretting hand bends the string upward to give a wobbly effect. Here pick the 5the note and bend the strin upwards. Same goes with the 6th note.
e———————————————————-|
B———————————————————-|
G———————————————————-|
D———-5b—6b—————————————|
A———————————————————-|
E———————————————————-|
Slide
It is represented by s. In slide you have to slide from first note to second. In 3s5 the the 3rd note is picked and finger slides downwards to the 5th note. In 7s4 the 7th note is picked and finger slides upwards to the 4th note. The sliding downward is also sometimes represented by / and sliding upward by \.
e———————————————————-|
B———————————————————-|
G———————————————————-|
D———-3s5——————————————–|
A——————-7s4———————————-|
E———————————————————-|
Vibrato
It is represented either by v or ~~~. It is used for providing a vibrating sound. The note is picked and then the string is bend up and down quickly to produce a vibration like sound.
e———————————————————-|
B———————————————————-|
G———————————————————-|
D———-3v———————————————|
A——————-7~~ ———————————|
E———————————————————-|
So I hope, you now understand how to read the tabs. If you still have any doubts or any questions please feel to leave a comment below.
